You've picked your posies, selected your party style and chosen a container. But how do you turn those fresh-cut flowers into a professional looking floral arrangement? Here's your playbook on how to become a budding genius.

•	Tools of the trade—gather your gear before you start: floral shears, floral tape, flower frogs and flower food. •	Just add water—prepare the perfect environment for your flowers by adding a packet of plant food to a container of tepid water. •	First cuts—before arranging, use floral scissors to cut an inch off the stems at a 45-degree angle (the fresh cut will help the stems absorb water better) and remove any foliage that would fall below the waterline. •	Foam foundation—use florist's foam to keep your blooms in place and to keep them constantly hydrated so they'll last longer. Another expert tip: Soak the foam for 15 minutes before cutting to fit the container. Afterward, water the foam every other day. •	Start big—add the large, heavy flowers first. Turn the arrangement as you go to create an even placement on all sides. Next, fill in with the smaller blooms, leaving enough space between the stems to pose those posies in their most flattering light and to leave room for each flower to open fully. Finally, drape some of the greenery over the container's rim for the perfect finish.
