Who says pumpkins are just for Halloween? No matter if you use fresh pumpkin or the canned variety, this spicy-sweet treat will have your guests begging for the recipe.

Nothing smells better than fresh pumpkin bread fresh out of the oven. And there is no pumpkin bread better than my mom’s best pumpkin bread recipe. Try baking a batch and see if there is any left once your family gets a whiff of it!

what you’ll need

  • 1 1/2 cups sifted flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 can (or 2 cups) pumpkin
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 2/3 cup warm water
  • 4 eggs
  • 3 cups sugar
  • nuts and/or spices to taste

let’s do it

  • combine flour, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, salt and baking powder in medium bowl and set aside
  • mix pumpkin, vegetable oil and warm water in large bowl
  • add eggs one at a time to pumpkin mixture, stirring continuously
  • add sugar and mix well
  • add dry ingredients, one cup at a time, stirring continuously
  • add nuts and/or additional spices to taste
  • pour mixed ingredients into 2–5″ x 5″ x 3″ well-greased loaf pans
  • bake 75 minutes at 325 degrees in a convection oven or 60-75 minutes at 350 degrees in a regular oven
