DIY denim napkins
As the first thing someone reaches for when they sit down at the table, your napkin treatment can help set the mood for the whole event. So here’s a fun little DIY project—turning jeans into a sandwich wrap and napkin—that will instantly give your party a little rustic, playful charm that’s guaranteed to get your guests talking. Plus, it’s the perfect way to reuse that much-loved pair of jeans that you just can’t quite get yourself to toss out.
What You’ll Need
Clean pair of old blue jeans
Scissors
Sandwiches
Wax paper
Raffia or twine ribbon
Let’s Do It
Use the scissors to cut a one-inch slit in the jeans, and then rip the jeans along the seam until the slit is about 12-inches long. Don’t worry if the edges are ragged or uneven, or even the jean fabric has some small holes—it will only add to the country-style charm. Next, make a small snip at a right angle on both ends of the slit, and tear along both seams. Repeat once more until you have a 12″ x 12″ square piece of fabric.
Cue your sandwiches: these can be pretty much any variety you choose, except for possibly those monster quadruple-deckers that are impossible to bite into. Wrap your sandwich in wax paper to prevent any cotton fibers from making their way into your meal, then wrap the denim napkin around as a second layer and tie with raffia or twine. Serve to your guests and enjoy all the oohs and aahs as they unwrap your latest DIY masterpiece.
